UC Santa Cruz Reserves Collection

Abstract

This collection consists of materials pertaining to the Fort Ord, Younger Lagoon, and Campus natural reserves, administered by UC Santa Cruz. The Campus Natural Reserve is not part of the UC Natural Reserve System (NRS), but its history is intertwined with the NRS at UCSC.

This collection includes two series:

The first series covers Fort Ord and the Campus Natural Reserve, and consists of indexed materials including: (1) student reports and theses related to the reserves, (2) files of general reference materials on exotic species, rare plants, erosion control, and other land management issues, (3) Fort Ord files concerning budgeting, wells, and reserve operations, from 1993-2012, including documentation of the reserve’s implementation of a Habitat Conservation Plan and a Habitat Management Plan, which include correspondence with the U.S. departments of the interior and defense, which were partners in these plans, (4) Fort Ord monitoring data, and (5) Campus Natural Reserve files covering teaching, management, conservation, and land-use issues, from 1963-2011.

The second series consists of recent Administrative Records for Fort Ord and Younger Lagoon reserves. Much of the series is made up of general operating files, equipment manuals, budget files, liability waivers, materials for generating reports, and reserve sign-in sheets.
