Año Nuevo Elephant Seal Data Collection

Abstract

This collection consists of data and  research documents related to elephant seals at the Año Nuevo Island Reserve (ANI). Much of the original data has been entered into digital databases and is available to researchers upon request. The collection was created by Rick Condit, but it also includes data collected by other researchers and UC Santa Cruz students.

Detailed contents include: (1) records from elephant seal censuses from 1968-2002, (2) elephant seal marking cards from 1980-2004, (3) Bernie Le Boeuf and students’ elephant seal tag records from 1970-98, (4) data from recovered elephant seal tags  from 1984-2011,  (5) location maps of tagged elephant seals from 1968-98, (6) four binders of birthing records for elephant seals, (7) assorted articles, dissertations, and student honors theses  from 1989-95, (8) records of elephant seal sightings from 1991-2007, (9) student class projects that include elephant seal data from 1980-88, (10) assorted slides, photo prints, and press clippings related to the ANI reserve, and (11) various large format documents, including project display boards and charts related to elephant seals at ANI and other research sites.
