Bodega Marine Reserve Research Coordinator and Manager's Collection

Abstract

This collection contains the files and materials of the Bodega Marine Reserve (BMR) Research Coordinator. Created by Jackie Sones in 2005, it consists of researcher files, subject files on reserve management issues, historical documents related to BMR and the Bodega Marine Laboratory (BML), and information used for generating annual reports.

The researcher files contain research applications with information about projects and publications. Of particular note are files on a dune restoration project conducted in partnership with California State Parks, including information on dune natural history, geomorphology, and restoration.

The subject files contain general information on topics related to reserve management policy, projects, partner organizations, facilities, NRS advisory committees, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) compliance activities, environmental monitoring projects, endangered species, hantavirus, and other topics. These files also contain historical information, including maps, land use, and local culture.

The historical files include photographs of BMR and documents, from the 1950s and 60s, created by Cadet Hand and people connected to him prior to the establishment of BML. Most of these documents are copies from the collections of the Cadet Hand Library at BML. Topics include site selection and property locations, facility planning, and the development of marine field stations around the United States.
