Boyd Deep Canyon Historical Materials Collection

Abstract

This collection contains photographs, clippings, correspondence, and ephemera documenting the early history of Boyd Deep Canyon (BDC) reserve, mostly from the 1960s-80s.

Items of note include: (1) aerial photos of the reserve and surrounding area from 1964, (2) photos of classes and facilities at BDC, (3) artwork created on the reserve, (4) clippings related to the reserve and the surrounding area from 1945-86, (5) photos of flora and fauna used for research purposes, (6) photos and ephemera pertaining to the BDC dedication in 1970, (7) property documentation, including materials related to the 1976 Agave Hill gift.

This collection also contains a correspondence file. Notable correspondents include Wilbur Mayhew (1979-81), Bill Jennings (1974-79), Roger Samuelson (1979-83), Lloyd Tevis (1961-77), Irwin Ting (1965-77), Rudy Ruibal (1965-77), Frank Vasek (1980-81), Jan Zabriskie (1979-81), and the reserve’s donor and benefactor Philip Boyd (1977-83).
