Abstract
This collection consists of administrative records for the UCSD-affiliated reserves. Most of the files were created by UCSD NRS academic coordinator Isabelle Kay, with some created by former director Karl Hubbs. The collection overlaps somewhat with the "UC San Diego NRS Administration Collection," but nonetheless comprises a distinct set of records. The collection includes two series detailed below.
The first series consists of Administrative Reference Files housed in filing cabinets. Contents include: (1) reserve directors’ files created by Kay and Hubbs including use statistics, reports, planning, facilities management, and copies of legal documents, neighbor files, research proposals, reference materials, and correspondence on reserve management issues from 1966-90, (2) a set of documents from a 1970 field class at the Kendall Frost Mission Bay Marsh Reserve, including student papers and hand drawn maps, (3) budget and financial files, (4) materials from UCSD and system-wide NRS meetings and committees, from 1984-2010, (5) use permits for UCSD reserves, from 1984-99, (6) field notebooks and research administrative documents for the "Knoll" at the Scripps Coastal Reserve, from 1995-2008, (7) other notebooks including phone logs, daily records, project notes, and meeting notes, (8) education files on K-12 programs, the Hands on for School Teachers program, and other public outreach efforts, from 1990-2007, (9) conservation and land management reference files covering such topics as the 1996 San Diego Multiple Species Conservation Program, the Carmel Mountain Conservancy, developments near reserves, and general information about the policies, activities, and programs of state, municipal, and federal agencies involved in conservation issues, from 1990-2005, and (10) informational files on non-NRS reserves including a folder on Ryan Oak Glen, a former UCSD reserve, containing correspondence from Mildred Mathias dated 1973-2003.
