Wilbur Mayhew Deep Canyon Papers

Abstract

This collection contains Wilbur Mayhew’s files on the Boyd Deep Canyon Desert Research Center. Mayhew was a founding NRS faculty member at UC Riverside, and had a central role in establishing some of the earliest NRS reserves. This collection holds documents pertaining to Deep Canyon’s founding and early operations, as well as Mayhew's own research at the site. In particular, it includes: (1) administrative documents pertaining to budgets, infrastructure, rules and regulations, fundraising, grants, maintenance, proposals, and teaching, (2) NRS documents from the reserve, campus, and system-wide levels, including Deep Canyon advisory committee documents, (3) files on other potential reserve acquisitions, (4) correspondence, from 1958-82, and (5) documents pertaining to the reserve’s dedication in 1970.
