Sedgwick Reserve

Information

Sedgwick Reserve is located in the Santa Ynez Valley of Santa Barbara County. It holds a large set of legal documents related to the site's ownership, dating from the 1850s through 2006. These include deeds, wills, maps, correspondence, and varied documents produced by the University, the Land Trust of Santa Barbara County, and Duke Sedgwick's estate. Many of these documents were collected as part of a lengthy legal process during the 1990s, when the University of California was in the process of acquiring the reserve. There are also several items that belonged to the Sedgwick Family, as well as memos and newspaper clippings about them.

Administrative reserve records include materials compiled by former director Mike Williams, publicity and clippings files, construction documents and building plans, fire management plans, reserve management and master plans, and assorted subject files. Land use topics include grazing, farming, hunting, research, outreach, and restoration. The reserve also houses photograph collections documenting local plants and animals, including especially the site's oak woodlands.

Please note that, unlike many other reserves, all of Sedgwick's on-site records are described as a single collection.
